Event Details

Working with local biodiversity partners, we at Elements Green, the developer of the Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park, want to create opportunities for the local community to connect with, learn about, and help care for the more than 1,300 acres of biodiversity mitigation land proposed as part of the development, through activities that encourage understanding, monitoring, and stewardship.
We are hosting a two day event in Maplebeck where families can discover more about local biodiversity with guidance from trusted professionals, completely free of charge. Each day will be split into two activity sessions, and you can sign up for two of the three available activities using the registration link above. For more details on the itinerary, activities and disclaimers, see below.

Habitat explorers; a bug safari

Hosted by the RSPB

Calling all budding nature detectives, come and join an RSPB expert on a wild safari to explore the habitats and wildlife that live on farms. From beautiful butterflies and ladybirds to slimy slugs and impressive shield bugs, you're sure to track down plenty of invertebrates (animals without backbones) on this bug hunt and nature walk activity. This activity can be linked to learning about habitats, biodiversity and food chains that support our birds and mammals.

Waterway Wonders

Hosted by the Trent River Trust

Come and join our activity with Trent Rivers Trust where we’ll be exploring what lives in our waterways! We’ll be taking part in kick sampling near the local brook, checking for critters and invertebrates that thrive in the water. We’ll be talking about the benefits that natural flood management brings, helping to improving biodiversity, reducing flooding in urban areas, and working to create more natural, healthier rivers.

Tree Detectives

Hosted by the Sherwood Forest Trust

Join us for a guided walk through Maplebeck where we’ll step into the secret world of native woodlands, home to squirrels, birds, and all sorts of hidden creatures.
